OUR MISSION

First Baptist Church exists to worship God, grow in Christ,

equip for service, and draw others into the family of God.

Our 2026 Theme Verse

...and it is my prayer that OUR LOVE MAY ABOUND more and more WITH KNOWLEDGE AND DISCERNMENT so that you may approve what is excellent and so be pure and blameless for the day of Christ filled with the fruit of righteousness THAT COMES THROUGH JESUS CHRIST TO THE GLORY AND PRAISE OF GOD

Philippians 1:9-11

What We Believe

As a church we try to live by the guidance of the Holy Spirit to walk out the design of man according to who we are now in our new identity in God. However, we know we fall short and are covered by the love, mercy, grace, and forgiveness of Jesus Christ. Those who do not know Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior are lost, not having the Truth of God in their lives. We treat people with grace, loving them where they are, just as Jesus would love them. While these beliefs seek to express the truth of Scripture, the truth must always be expressed with the spirit of grace found in Jesus Christ who came to us full of grace and truth. (John 1:16-17). Similarly, we approach others with that same spirit of grace and truth.

We believe the Bible, consisting of the 66 books of the Old and New Testament Scriptures in their entirety, is the only divinely inspired, inerrant, objectively true, and authoritative written Word of God. It is the supreme authority and only infallible rule of faith and practice.

(II Timothy 3:16)

The eternal God exists and manifests Himself in three equal persons;

God - the Father, God - the Son, and God - the Holy Spirit

(Matthew 28:19-20).

Jesus Christ was born of a virgin, being both fully God and fully man

(Luke 1:30-35).

Our Lord Jesus Christ, having died by crucifixion at Calvary, rose bodily from the dead, and is a living Savior, through whom we can find forgiveness and salvation

(John 1:29).

Salvation is a gift of God's grace, through faith in our Lord Jesus Christ

(Ephesians 2:8-9).

Water baptism in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit is the biblical testimony of the professed believer

(Acts 2:28-41; Matthew 28:18-20; Romans 6:3-4).

Once someone receives the free gift of Jesus Christ they are a brand new creation, washed clean of all transgressions (past, present, and future); now learning to live out their new creation by the renewing of the mind and taking captive every thought, making it obedient to Christ.

(2 Corinthians 5:17-21; Romans 12:1-2; 2 Corinthians 10:3-6)

God created us to reflect His image individually and together in community, expressing our unity in diversity. As a result, we flourish in intimate relationship with God and one another.

(Genesis 1:26–27)

What We Believe

We worship together Sunday mornings at 9am.

FBC has been around since the very beginning of Rapid City, first meeting above a saloon on Main Street!

Since that time we have continued to evolve and change as we grow in our faith.

Feel free to dress as you are comfortable. You can expect friendly and authentic people, a mix of great traditional and fresh contemporary music, intentional messages from the Bible, and an opportunity to encounter God. We look to meet everyone where there are in their faith journey using video clips, liturgical readings, dramatic presentations, and moments of silence to help you connect with our God. We hope you will be encouraged and also challenged to take one more step in your life of faith.

Expect to hear about Jesus.

Expect honesty.

Expect exceptional love

Our midweek gathering, W.O.W. which stands for Worship On Wednesday begins in September and runs through May.

We serve an evening meal at 5:30 p.m. free of charge.

Discipleship opportunities on Wednesdays for kids as well as adults from 6:00 p.m.-7:30 p.m.

The choir practices from 6:00 p.m.-6:40 p.m. and the Praise Team from 6:40pm-7:30pm

and we’re always looking for new people who like to sing.

Visiting a church for the first time can be very intimidating. It can be intimidating for several months! We want to give you space to explore your relationship with God at a pace that is comfortable for you. We don't want to smother you, but we don't want you to go unnoticed either. If you're willing to help us understand where you're at in your search, we'll do the best we can to walk with you in a way that makes sense to you. No matter what church you try out, you should give that group of people a chance over several weeks or months and not just a single visit. Our goal is always to help you find a connection to a community of faith that is right for you, whether that's at First Baptist or somewhere else.
